p7422
Bizen-ware Gen-tasuki red tea cup
This is a new Bizen Gendasuki (black-sash) red tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This piece was taken from the kiln in June 2024.

In addition to traditional Bizen techniques achieved through climbing kiln firing, this tea cup was fired using a new method newly developed by Koriki.

He has further evolved the "hidasuki" (fire-sash) technique, created by firing works in a sealed environment within the kiln, to give the entire piece a vivid, "ripe persimmon" scarlet hue—a signature characteristic of Koriki's work.

Furthermore, while the name "Gendasuki" refers to the matte black sashes on the piece, a closer look at the black marks reveals a mysterious kiln transformation: some areas resemble a rough, toasted "kase-goma" (sesame) glaze, while others possess a strong, metallic luster.

The texture is smooth and pleasant to the touch, similar to frosted glass; indeed, one would want to be enveloped by such a superb texture in a tea cup used every day.

Although designed as a tea cup, it is quite large with a wide diameter, making it also suitable for use as a shochu cup.

No box included (*a paulownia wood box can be crafted separately)
Diameter 8.8cm × 8.8cm × Height 8.8cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and held his first firing the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
