{"product_id":"p7488","title":"Bizen Yohen Sake Cup","description":"This is a brand new *yohen* (kiln-transformed) sake cup, just out of the kiln by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied ceramics under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and now pursues his research in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.\u003cbr\u003e\nThis is his latest work, removed from the kiln in November 2024.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nMr. Oiwa aims for intense firing; despite using an anagama kiln, he achieves a high-contrast *haikaburi* (ash-covered) *yohen* effect that rivals that of a climbing kiln.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nFor this firing, he used a more refractory clay with a higher content of mountain soil than before, and employed a high-temperature, short-duration firing process, baking parts of the piece until they developed a white *namako* (sea cucumber) glaze skin.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe resilient clay, adjusted to match the kiln firing, forms an extremely hard and matte finish, creating a unique aesthetic as if natural glaze were soaking into parched earth.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nConversely, the interior (*mikomi*) features a high-gloss aesthetic as if iron had slowly leached out, creating a striking contrast between the textures of the interior and exterior clay.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nThe form, which incorporates and expresses his mentor's unique design sensibilities, is also compelling, and the way the foot is trimmed—as if carved into the clay with a spatula—is truly captivating.\n\nSigned wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before shipping).\u003cbr\u003e\nDiameter 7.8cm × 6.8cm × Height 5.8cm\n\nTomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nHe completed the Bizen Ceramic Center program in 2004 and began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003e\nHe established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture in 2014.","brand":"大岩智之","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46618181599329,"sku":"7488","price":18700.0,"currency_code":"JPY","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0654\/9916\/8865\/files\/7488.jpg?v=1790232790","url":"https:\/\/tourakuen.myshopify.com\/en\/products\/p7488","provider":"川口陶楽苑","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
