p7513
Ibe Guinomi
This is a freshly fired Ibe sake cup by Yuho Kaneshige, a potter who, despite being part of the Kaneshige lineage, constantly questions himself and creates his work as an individual artisan.

This is the latest work, fired in November 2024.

It was created using a newly designed "tsuchigama" (earth kiln)—an anagama kiln made entirely of clay without the use of firebricks—representing a fusion of the Kaneshige firing technique with this unique kiln.

The Bizen region experienced heavy rainfall this past autumn, and for this firing, the *mose* (moisture within the kiln) worked remarkably well, resulting in many pieces that beautifully harmonize rich ash-covered *yohen* (kiln transformation) with vivid scarlet hues.

The *nuke* (uncovered area) on the front and the *mikomi* (interior) display a profound scarlet color achieved through the use of the finest *tatsuchi* clay, showcasing a magnificent, unique coloration that appears to glow from the very core of the clay.

The hue and texture of the ash-covered *yohen* are of the high quality characteristic of Yuho-sensei; the beautiful gray surface, combined with meticulous finishing, creates an exquisite feel that invites one to polish it with sake endlessly.

Its texture is so soft and gentle against the fingers that, with eyes closed, few would likely identify it as an ash-covered *yohen* piece.

The rim is thin and elegantly tapered, while the body from the waist to the foot is slightly thicker—a form balance that perfectly embodies the Sozan-ism, crafted with the sophistication of a tea bowl for an outstanding feel in the hand.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that due to various circumstances, it will take approximately one month to complete the paulownia box).
Diameter 6.3cm × 6.2cm × Height 6.3cm

Yuho Kaneshige was born as the third son of the Intangible Cultural Property holder Sozan Kaneshige.

He began learning pottery techniques under his father, Sozan Kaneshige, in 1975.

He became independent in 1980 and held his first solo exhibition in Okayama.

Currently, he focuses on tea ceramics such as tea bowls, water jars, and flower vases, as well as tableware.

In particular, he emphasizes the interior structure (*mikomi*) of his tea bowls, pursuing a harmony between ease of use and exterior form.

He has received the Sanyo Shimbun Award at the Prefectural Exhibition, the Encouragement Award at the Exhibition of Tea Ceremony Ceramics, and the Tanko Biennale Encouragement Award, among others.

In 2002, he received the Japan Ceramic Society Award, and in 2018, the Sanyo Shimbun Cultural Merit Award.

In 2019, he was designated as a holder of an Okayama Prefectural Important Intangible Cultural Property.

He is also dedicated to his solo exhibitions, which are held in various locations both within and outside the prefecture.
