p7547
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a previous work—a Bizen yohen sake cup—by Takeshi Kaneshige, who continues his research and pottery making after moving his kiln from Ibe to Kuguai.

Fired about 10 years ago, this piece was created after he moved his residence from Ibe to Kuguai.

Created using a technique close to field firing, the piece is characterized by a distinct yohen (kiln transformation) that clearly separates the upper and lower sections.

Excluding the area below the waist, the upper portion is completely covered in ash glaze (haikaburi), and the deep gray kiln transformation becomes even darker when it absorbs moisture during use.

In contrast to the top, the lower section displays a very vivid scarlet color, resulting in a wild finish typical of a small anagama (tunnel kiln) using techniques close to field firing.

This is an unused item that was carefully stored after being purchased new.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.1cm x 7.0cm x Height 6.0cm

Takeshi Kaneshige was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1968 as the second son of Michiaki Kaneshige.

Raised in a family of potters—with his grandfather being Toyo Kaneshige, his father Michiaki Kaneshige, and his uncle Sozan Kaneshige—and growing up in the pottery town of Ibe, he naturally aspired to become a Bizen ware artist.

He graduated from Ashiya College of Fine Arts in 1988.

In 1992, after training at the Atelier Hikosen Ceramics Research Institute, he returned to Ibe, where he honed his Bizen ware skills within the Kaneshige school.

He has been active in the field, exhibiting at the Bizen Young Artists Exhibition in 1996 and participating in the Kaneshige School Exhibition since 1999.

In recent years, he has moved his kiln from Ibe to Kuguai to continue his work.
