p7554
Bizen Hiki-dashi Teacup
This is a Bizen hikidashi (pulled-out) tea cup by Yoshiteru Takariki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
While this is a style of hikidashi tea cup previously unseen in Takariki’s Bizen work, he has evolved it into a unique aesthetic by drawing out the quality of the clay.

Placed in the area of the kiln with the most intense fire, the piece was pulled out during the firing process, resulting in a rich, amber-colored natural ash glaze covering the entire surface.

The subtle variations in color, such as the intensified metallic sheen around the foot, remind us once again of the mysterious nature of hikidashi-kuro (pulled-out black) and the wondrous effects of light.

Inside the cup, the gray clay texture typical of pulled-out works is punctuated by scattered green and black kiln-change patterns (yohen).

With its signature orthodox form, this tea cup is approachable and easy to use, despite its enigmatic appearance.

No box (※Paulownia wood box can be made upon request)
Diameter 7.7cm × 7.6cm × Height 8.4cm

Yoshiteru Takariki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and became independent, firing his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
