p7565
Bizen Hidasuki Sake Cup
This is a Bizen hidaski sake cup (guinomi) from a slightly earlier period by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family.

This piece was fired approximately 5 to 10 years ago.

Staying true to the Kaneshige family tradition, the clay was prepared entirely by hand without the use of a pug mill, ensuring a slow and meticulous process.

The carefully nurtured clay was slow-fired in an anagama (climbing) kiln, resulting in a bright beige clay body and an elegant hidaski (fire-cord) pattern.

The hidaski, which seems to soak into the skin with a moist touch, is remarkably rich and beautiful; one is instantly captivated by the simple chemical reaction between the rice straw and the clay.

Jumpei’s original design, resembling a lily about to bloom, is also fascinating, making this a piece where tradition and innovation truly unite.

This is an unused item that was carefully stored after being purchased new.

Original signed box (shiho-zan)
Diameter 7.1cm × 6.9cm × Height 7.1cm

Jumpei Kaneshige was born in Komaba, Tokyo in 1972 as the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige.

In 1994, he graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University.

In 2000, he completed his graduate studies in sculpture at Long Island University in New York, USA.

After returning to Japan, he studied under his father, Kosuke Kaneshige.
