p7595
Blue-Horned Shuten-dōji
This is a new black sake cup (guinomi) by Sohei Takashima, who made a spectacular debut after graduating from the studio of Jun Isezaki and receiving the Modern Ceramics Encouragement Award from the Japan Ceramics Society.
This black sake cup was created by Takashima-sensei, who studied under the fifth Living National Treasure for Bizen ware, Jun Isezaki, before becoming independent in Ushimado, Setouchi City.

The piece is crafted using the black slip technique that is characteristic of the Isezaki school, resulting in a deep, glossy black finish throughout the work that creates a truly impressive landscape.

Furthermore, this piece has been fired repeatedly in an oil kiln, a process Takashima-sensei is currently researching, which imbues the work with a vibrant blue color—reminiscent of salt glaze—and an exquisite luster.

Perhaps also due to the oil kiln firing, mysterious 'sesame' (ash) markings have appeared on the interior, with a black hue resembling oil paint and yellow sesame spots appearing across the surface.

The intricate, sophisticated form, reminiscent of a Ki-Seto hexagonal cup, is also fascinating; the kiln transformation, black slip, and sculptural form work in perfect harmony to create a free-spirited world of 'blue.'

Signed paulownia box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 6.2cm x 6.0cm x Height 6.4cm

Sohei Takashima was born in Kushiro City, Hokkaido, in 1991.

In 2014, he graduated from the Department of Design at Dohto University and subsequently apprenticed under Jun Isezaki.

He is currently independent and working in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture.
He has received the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition Encouragement Award, been selected for the Tanabe Museum of Art "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition," the Ceramics Art Exhibition Encouragement Award, the Modern Tea Ceramics Exhibition, and the Japan Ceramics Society Modern Ceramics Encouragement Award.
