p7640
Bizen Dragon Sake Cup
This is a new Bizen dragon sake cup by Koji Nakahara, an artist who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life.

This piece was fired in the kiln of his mentor, Fumio Kawabata.

The entire piece features a dragon sculpture, and by envisioning the sake cup as a sky, you can enjoy the sight of a majestic dragon swimming leisurely through a sea of clouds.

The dragon's form has been meticulously carved out from a thick-walled cup, and the exquisite craftsmanship of the scales, claws, and whiskers is truly magnificent.

Despite its thickness, the overall weight and balance of the piece have been carefully adjusted, making it surprisingly light and comfortable to hold despite its large, bold form.

To accentuate the dragon's details, natural glaze has been applied only in key areas, and the cloud-like white matte sesame ash and the fine, speckled "tobi-goma" ash inside the cup add remarkable depth and character.

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 8.1cm x 8.0cm x Height 5.3cm

Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978.

He graduated from the Nara College of Arts in 2000.

Subsequently, he graduated from the Bizen Pottery Center in Bizen City in 2001.

In the same year, he began his apprenticeship under Fumio Kawabata and joined the Kaneshige Toh-en studio in 2007.

He built his own kiln in Osaka City and became independent in 2010.

Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition and various public exhibitions.

He is currently a regular member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
