p7708
Bizen ware mug
This is a Bizen mug by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This piece was fired in June 2024.

The mug was fired in a prime position in front of the fire, where it was heavily coated in ash (goma). The dynamic, flowing ash patterns are magnificent and truly impressive.

Furthermore, by allowing the piece to absorb plenty of smoke during firing, a luster has developed across the entire surface; combined with the color of the clay, it creates a finish that looks just like melted chocolate.

This luster acts almost like a coating over the surface, resulting in a smooth, sleek texture that makes it even more pleasant to use.

While the design is a large mug style, the handle and body are thinly crafted, making it surprisingly lightweight.

No box included
Diameter 11.3cm × 8.5cm × Height 8.3cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 800 yen will be automatically added at checkout.

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become an independent artist, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
