p7720
Ibe Rice Bowl
This Ibe rice bowl is by Kosuke Yashiro, an artist who spent his formative years working as an apprentice, dreaming of dedicating his life to Bizen ware in the town of Ibe, and who has finally debuted after fulfilling his long-held wish of building his own kiln there.
It is a straightforward, authentic piece of Bizen ware, true to Yashiro, an artist who fell in love with the works of the many potters who were born and passed away in Ibe, and who made Bizen ware his life's work.

While the kiln changes and the texture of the clay give the overall piece a very understated and subdued tone, closer inspection reveals a rich variety of hues, including light blue, purple, and orange, creating a refined atmosphere that is quintessentially Bizen.

The slightly bluish-gray "kase-goma" (dry ash glaze) combined with the moist, matte texture of the clay evokes the flavor of the "yama-tsuchi" (mountain clay) period works of Ariyoshi Kaneshige.

Additionally, the appropriately sized small stones embedded in the surface enhance the character of the unglazed clay, with some shifting along the spatula marks and others peeking out from the wheel lines, demonstrating excellent craftsmanship.

The detailed construction is as impressive as that of a tea bowl, and the dignified foot trim—so typical of the serious-minded Yashiro—is truly captivating.

No box included
Diameter 12.5cm x 12.2cm x Height 5.6cm

*Please note that a shipping fee of 500 yen will be charged.

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1979.

Around 2000, he began training under various kilns and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

In September 2016, he built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist.
