p7731
Hidasuki Sake Cup
This Hidasuki sake cup (guinomi) is by Mashiro Aiga, an artist who creates unswerving, gutsy works.

Among the many Bizen ware potters, it is precisely because Mr. Aiga specializes in the firing process that he is able to express the clay tones and kiln effects that only emerge through rigorous firing.

This Hidasuki sake cup, fired while encased in a saggar, features a matte, azuki-bean-colored clay body draped with thin, crimson Hidasuki markings that shimmer with a subtle golden hue.

Its parched texture evokes the earth during a dry season, and there is a profound elegance in the way sake acts as life-giving rain, moistening the parched landscape.

The Setoguro-style low foot pairs perfectly with the raised, wave-like clay form of the body, giving it the appearance of a stone tumbled down from a mountain—a look that suits the wild, rugged Hidasuki landscape perfectly.

It is easy to see the works the artist has admired and aspired to, and it is truly masterful how he has distilled that aesthetic into this slightly smaller size.
Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 6.2cm x 6.2cm x Height 5.3cm
Mashiro Aiga was born in Hiroshima Prefecture in 1972.

He graduated from the Okayama Prefectural Bizen Ceramics Center in 1997.

In 2003, he built a fully underground anagama kiln in Sabu.

The following year, he built his second, semi-underground anagama kiln, where he continues to devote himself to his craft.
