p7741
Kohiki Sake Cup
4th

This is a Kohiki sake cup by Shusaku Kaneshige of "Toko-bo Yu," a studio operated by two pupils of Master Yuho Kaneshige.

In a simple style that thoroughly eliminates superfluous ornamentation,
there remains a slight undulation in the clay that allows one to sense the breath of the creator.

While Kohiki ware is considered to reach its zenith in the works of the Joseon Dynasty, this piece also possesses a withered aesthetic due to its exquisite presence,
and the wheel-thrown form, which even evokes a sense of "clumsiness" in its asymmetry, is so masterfully crafted that it could be mistaken for the work of a seasoned potter.

Furthermore, the aforementioned quiet style translates directly into an excellent user experience,
with its slightly thin rim and small yet refined construction being truly wonderful.

However, staying true to being a pupil of Master Yuho Kaneshige, the work does not end with mere beauty;
by using a slightly coarse clay body, very fine "ishihaze" (stone bursts) appear throughout the piece,
acting as profound accents, much like life budding from beneath the snow.

Additionally, this piece was wood-fired, resulting in kiln alterations here and there,
which give the work an air of having been handed down through generations, even though it is brand new.

Tomobako (signed wooden box) to be provided at a later date (please note that it will take some time until shipment).
Diameter 6.0cm x 5.9cm x Height 5.7cm

Toko-bo Yu is a studio established in 2011 by three pupils of Master Yuho Kaneshige.

Current Members
Shusaku Kaneshige (born 1978), Yosaku Kaneshige (born 1980)
