This is a brand-new black sake cup (guinomi) fresh from his kiln.

This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in August 2025.

While utilizing the inherent qualities of Bizen clay, he skillfully incorporates elements from his roots in wood carving to create a unique piece that is instantly recognizable as his own.

The entire form was shaped by hand rather than on a potter's wheel, and the meticulously considered design gives it a dense, powerful presence similar to that of a tea bowl.

This sake cup was coated in the black slip that has become synonymous with the Isezaki family, and fired in a high-heat section of the kiln to encourage kiln-altered effects.

Fired in a location of intense heat, the black slip has developed a brilliant luster, resulting in a deep, rich black reminiscent of a Tenmoku tea bowl.

The "goma" (ash glaze) sprinkled across the surface appears as a tasteful "nagare-goma" (flowing ash) that complements rather than overwhelms the deep black, with the subtle ochre tones highlighting the radiant black surface.
Signed wooden box to be provided later (we apologize, but this will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 7.6cm x 7.4cm x Height 5.8cm
Koichiro Isezaki was born in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, in 1974, as the eldest son of Jun Isezaki.

After graduating from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University in 1994, he studied abroad in the United States.

In 1998, he began studying under Jeff Shapiro, a potter living in New York City who was also a student of his father.

After studying pottery for about two years, he returned to Japan and in 2000 became an independent potter under his father, Jun Isezaki.
