p7778
Ibe Shuten
This is an earlier work of Bizen sake cup (guinomi) by Kosuke Yashiro, an artist who spent his formative years working as an apprentice in Ibe with the dream of dedicating his life to Bizen pottery, and who finally debuted after realizing his long-held ambition of building his own kiln in Ibe.

This piece was fired around 2023.

The work is a quintessential Bizen piece that reflects Yashiro's devotion to the craft; he has made Bizen pottery his life's work, inspired by the creations of the many potters born and laid to rest in Ibe.

This piece was fired in a newly designed, ultra-compact, fully underground anagama kiln—a challenging firing process that utilized no refractory materials except for the ceiling.

It features a refined combination of yellow sesame (ki-goma) glaze and shiso (beefsteak plant) red—a classic Bizen aesthetic—with the smoky, distinctive texture of the shiso color proving particularly profound.

In addition to the excellent feel in the hand provided by its classic 7 cm diameter, the exceptionally soft texture resulting from the minimal use of refractory materials in the kiln firing makes this a sake cup that, while understated at first glance, offers a deeply satisfying experience with each use.

This is an unused item that was kept carefully in storage, unopened, since its initial purchase.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0 cm x 7.0 cm x Height 4.2 cm

Kosuke Yashiro was born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 1979.

Around the year 2000, he began his apprenticeship under various kiln masters and artists in Ibe, Bizen City.

In September 2016, he built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist.
