p7806
Teacup
This is a yunomi (tea cup) by Seishi Mori, a master who named his kiln "Shakuyo" (Blazing Sun) and crafted his works as if pouring prayers into the clay, acting as an antithesis to consumer society.
True to the name "Shakuyo," this piece features the rich, vivid scarlet that defined Seishi-sensei’s life's work—a color that appears as if the intensity of the kiln’s glowing fire has yet to cool.

The secret lies in the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) technique and prolonged high-temperature firing; the vaporized components of the straw coat the entire piece, creating the viscous, oil-painting-like scarlet characteristic of Seishi’s works.

The form is also uniquely identifiable as Seishi-sensei’s; while one might initially mistake the pattern for regular lines resembling bamboo joints, the random lines stretching diagonally create an aura of chaos.

In a modern society where ideals and philosophies are quickly consumed as mere symbols, this is an energetic tea cup into which prayers, wishes, and anger have all been poured into the clay.

Includes signed wooden box (with two-way struts).
Diameter 8.2cm x 8.0cm x Height 9.4cm

*The original ceramic biography and signed cloth are not included (we will include a plain cloth from our shop).

Seishi Mori was born in 1944 into the Mori family, one of the six traditional Bizen ware families.

After graduating from university, he entered the world of ceramics in 1969, studying under his father, Chikuzan Mori, and his older brother, Tozan Mori.

He established his own semi-underground anagama kiln in 1975, and subsequently held solo exhibitions across Japan.

He passed away in 2011.
