p7823
Bizen sake cup
This is a brand-new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki—an artist who, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige, pursues his own creative path without pretense.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2025.

True to the style of Koriki-sensei, who draws out the expressions of the clay through bold, risk-taking kiln firings, this piece represents an exceptional finish that leans heavily into the "firing" side of the "firing and clay" equation.

A black ash-covered yohen, reminiscent of cooled and solidified magma, blankets the entire piece, with sections that have carbonized to shimmer with a faint black-silver luster, allowing you to fully enjoy the intensity of the firing.

The "nuke" (clear patch) on the front reveals a hard, well-fired clay body, yet it retains a subtle hint of scarlet, offering an enjoyment of both intensity and softness.

Furthermore, the intense firing has acted strongly upon the "kumadori"—the boundary between the clay body and the yohen—resulting in a distinct outline that is accented with golden hues, giving it the appearance of a rainbow arch.

Signed paulownia box to follow (please note that there will be a short delay before shipment).
Diameter 6.8cm × 6.7cm × Height 6.1cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions annually ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Ceramic Art Exhibition for the first time.
