p7825
Bizen Yohen Sake Cup
This is a brand-new Bizen yohen sake cup, fresh from the kiln, by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, even while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This latest work was fired in September 2025.

True to Koriki’s style of bringing out the character of the clay through daring, risk-taking kiln firings, the exterior features a rich, charcoal-black ash-covered yohen (kiln-transmutation) effect.

While Koriki typically uses rice-field clay as a base mixed with a small amount of mountain clay, the increased mountain clay content in this piece has successfully produced a more intense scarlet hue.

The unique scarlet color, with its slightly matte texture, is deeply flavorful. It is a sophisticated, elegant shade—entirely free of any pretension or crudeness—that reflects Koriki’s dedication to prioritizing clay preparation above all else, just as he was taught by his mentors.

The wide, deeply carved foot is reminiscent of Sozan’s work, showcasing the brilliant, mature technique of an artist who has reached the age of fifty.
Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that some time will be required before shipment).
Diameter 6.7cm × 6.5cm × Height 5.5cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Chanoyu Zokei-ten (Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition) for the first time.
