p7826
Bizen Ware Beer Mug
These new Bizen beer mugs, just taken out of the kiln, are the work of Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2025.

While retaining the inherent charm of Bizen clay, this piece was crafted with the goal of surpassing glass beer mugs. It features an exceptionally large design, rare for Bizen ware, holding approximately 400ml.

Fired slowly in the middle section of a climbing kiln, the piece exhibits a deeply rich "shiso" (beefsteak plant) red hue, serving as a textbook example of Bizen climbing kiln firing.

This shiso-red color pairs perfectly with beer; as it quenches your dry throat, it will instantly cause the rich, scarlet-colored clay surface to bloom.

Although it may take a little effort, chilling the mug in the refrigerator before use will help the surface retain moisture, prevent stains, and further enhance the beauty of the deep, earthy texture.

Affordably priced, this piece also makes a perfect gift.

No box included
Diameter 12.5cm × 9.0cm × Height 12.6cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
