p7829
Bizen ware teacup
This is a new Bizen tea cup fresh from the kiln by Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki, an artist who continues to lead the Bizen ware world with an inexhaustible creative power.
This latest work was fired in October 2025.

Fired for approximately 10 days in a semi-underground anagama kiln, this piece showcases the iconic Isezaki-style Bizen finish, featuring a beautiful interplay of goma (ash glaze), hidasuki (fire-cord markings), ito-goma (thread-like ash), and a gradation of white clay and scarlet hues.

This piece is crafted from a coarse, sandy clay, allowing the individual grains to show through within the scarlet gradations.

Rice straw was draped diagonally across the piece during firing; the way the hidasuki markings encircle the cup is so captivating that one finds themselves losing track of time while following the flow of the straw patterns with their eyes.

Furthermore, as the straw burned, it fused with the natural glaze, transforming into "ito-goma" patterns while still retaining the original silhouette of the straw.

Inside the cup, ash carried by the kiln's hot air has settled like fine, powdery snow, forming tiny, delicate grains.

Although labeled as a tea cup, it can naturally also be used as a beer mug.

Original signed box to follow (please note that it will take some time for delivery).
Diameter 7.2cm x 7.0cm x Height 9.0cm

Jun Isezaki was born as the second son of Yozan Isezaki, a master of ceramic craft.
