p7866
Bizen Hiki-dashi Gen-dasuki Sake Cup
This is a freshly kiln-fired Bizen "Hikidashi Kuro-tasuki" (pulled-out black cord-pattern) sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2025.

Distinct from traditional Bizen expressions achieved through climbing kiln firing, this sake cup utilizes new techniques developed since the 2000s.

The "hikidashi" (pull-out) technique is incorporated into the climbing kiln by placing the pieces near the firing port and rapidly cooling them after removal during the firing process to carbonize them.

The one thing that distinguishes this piece from the "hikidashi" black-ware currently trending in Bizen is that it belongs to the "Hidasuki" (fire-cord) lineage.

While Hidasuki is characterized by red cords draped over soft-hued white clay, carbonization inverts this into a black-silver color reminiscent of Aobizen (blue Bizen), resulting in a texture of iron or charcoal unlike anything seen before.

The Hidasuki marks have similarly inverted to black, shimmering with a black-silver luster true to the name "Kuro-tasuki" (black-cord). Following the "Shu" (protecting) Hidasuki inherited from his teacher Sozan Kaneshige’s electric kiln firing, and the "Ha" (breaking/innovating) Mizutama (polka-dot) Hidasuki, this work captivates the viewer as a completely new "Ri" (transcending) Hidasuki.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0cm x 6.9cm x Height 4.7cm
Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to go independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Chanoyu Zokeiten (Tea Ceremony Form Exhibition) for the first time.
