p7880
Bizen Free Cup
This new Bizen free cup is by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2025.

Fired slowly in the middle section of a climbing kiln, this piece is not defined by bold, natural ash glazing, but rather by the authentic color of the original rice field clay (tazuchi).

The firing process was carefully controlled to draw out the natural hues of the clay; the lower body exhibits a rich shiso-red tone, which transitions into an orange-tinted gradient toward the rim.

While sold as a "free cup," its size is closer to that of a small tea bowl (kohuku chawan). It is a wonderful, versatile piece that can be enjoyed in various ways: as a simple large tea cup, a glass for shochu on the rocks, or as a convenient vessel for enjoying whisked matcha.

With daily use, the surface of this rice field clay will polish over time, acquiring a deeply refined and weathered texture.

No box included
Diameter 9.4cm x 9.3cm x Height 9.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he spent seven years from 1989 studying ceramics under Sozan and Yuho Kaneshige.

He built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Sculpture Exhibition for the first time.
