p7884
Bizen Hidasuki Teacup
This is a Bizen Hidasuki tea cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest work, just removed from the kiln in September 2025.

It is a deeply flavorful tea cup made using the climbing kiln Hidasuki technique, carefully fired after being sealed in a saggars within the climbing kiln to prevent natural glaze from adhering to it.

Unlike the conventional combination of Mogusa clay and Hidasuki fired in electric kilns, this piece features complex black markings running across a rich, vibrant scarlet clay surface. In contrast to the elegant and flamboyant Mogusa Hidasuki style, this work offers a rustic and sophisticated aesthetic.

At the same time, true to Koriki-sensei’s meticulous approach to clay preparation, the piece has an incredibly smooth texture that belies its wild appearance, offering a refined tactile quality that rivals works fired in electric kilns.

The orthodox form typical of Koriki-sensei’s work makes it highly practical, serving as a versatile piece perfect for use as a tea cup or a shochu cup.

No box included
Diameter 8.5cm x 8.5cm x Height 9.2cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built a climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions ever since.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Molding Exhibition for the first time.
