p7895
Bizen-yaki Gen-dasuki Red Sake Pourer (Katakuchi)
This new Bizen "Gen-tasuki" (black-cord) red spouted sake server is a work by Yoshiteru Kouriki, who pursues his own creative vision without pretense, despite having studied under the masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This is his latest piece, fresh from the kiln in September of Reiwa 7 (2025).

Distinct from traditional Bizen expressions created through climbing kiln firing, this sake server was fired using a new technique developed by Kouriki-sensei.

It represents an evolution of the *hi-tasuki* (fire-cord) technique—achieved by sealing pieces within the kiln during firing—and is imbued throughout with the vivid, ripened-persimmon scarlet hue that is one of Kouriki-sensei's signature traits.

True to its "Gen-tasuki" (black-cord) name, this piece features a matte black cord design; however, a closer look reveals that parts of the black cord have a texture resembling *kase-goma* (rough, dry sesame-like ash glaze), while other areas display mysterious, shadow-like hues.

While this is a fairly large sake server—roughly the size of a large beer mug—the clay is concentrated around the base to lower the center of gravity, while the rim is tapered and thin for ease of use.

No box included
Diameter 10.0cm × 8.0cm × Height 10.6cm

Yoshiteru Kouriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he spent seven years from 1989 studying ceramics under masters Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to become independent, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held solo exhibitions every year since.

In 2002, his work was selected for the Tea Ceremony Ceramic Art Exhibition for the first time.
