p7921
Wine drinker
This is a new crimson sake cup by Tomoyuki Oiwa, who studied ceramic techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki and is currently dedicated to his research in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture.

This is his latest work, fired in October 2025.

This series serves as a counterpart to his iconic "Black" series; it is crafted by applying a special slip and firing the piece to a salmon pink hue.

While the overall color is a muted salmon pink, areas touched by natural ash glaze have developed bright brownish-red kiln transformations.

The combination of the substantial, multi-layered white sesame-like glaze and the unique luster of the crimson clay surface creates an effect reminiscent of a red Raku tea bowl.

Just as his mentor, Ryuichi Kakurezaki, explores the utility of various clays, this work represents one of the possibilities of clay utilization achieved through Mr. Oiwa's own unique methods.

The form, which internalizes and expresses the sake cup designs of his mentor, is fascinating, with Mr. Oiwa's meticulous attention to detail evident from the foot to the rim.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 7.3cm × 7.3cm × Height 6.3cm

Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1977.

He completed the Bizen Ceramic Center program in 2004 and began studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005.

In 2014, he established his own studio in Hyogo Prefecture.
