p7924
Bizen Hikidashi Square Sake Cup
This is a Bizen "hikidashi" (drawn-out) square sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, who pursues his own creative path without pretense while having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

This piece was fired and removed from the kiln in September 2025.

Placed in the hottest area directly in front of the flames, it was pulled from the kiln while still at peak temperature, giving the entire surface an appearance as if coated in glass.

In contrast, the base where it rested on the kiln shelf has taken on a lead-like hue, serving as a reminder of the mysterious allure of hikidashi-guro (drawn-out black) and the way it interacts with light.

The square form, which somewhat evokes Chojiro’s "muki-guri" (peeled chestnut) shape, is fascinating, and combined with the pale green landscape, it offers an expression quite different from typical Bizen ware.

Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 6.4cm x 6.3cm x Height 4.7cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics for seven years starting in 1989 under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold solo exhibitions annually since then.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Ceramics Exhibition for the first time.
