p7932
Bizen Nerikomi Beer Cup
This is a new Bizen *nerikomi* (marbled clay) beer cup by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create work that suits modern life.

This beer cup features a marble-like surface created by mixing and firing over a dozen types of Bizen clay.

It is crafted by fitting together clays with different compositions and shrinkage rates like pieces of a puzzle, and its complex patterns and incredibly smooth texture make it a piece you will want to pick up and use.

As mentioned, because the work is built by assembling these puzzle-like pieces, the design itself is unique, as if made from a combination of multiple parts. It is a brilliant culmination of the skills and sensibilities honed through his work in both intricate craftsmanship and tableware.

The vibrant *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings placed here and there bring interesting variations to the marble-like surface, making this a wonderful beer cup that achieves a high standard in every aspect—from the texture of the clay and design to its quality and ease of use.

No box included
Diameter 12.5cm (including handle) × 8.7cm × Height 12.6cm

Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978.

In 2000, he graduated from the advanced course at Nara College of Arts.

Subsequently, in 2001, he graduated from the Bizen Pottery Center in Bizen City.

In the same year, he began studying under Fumio Kawabata and joined Kaneshige Ritoen in 2007.

He established his own kiln in Osaka in 2010 and became an independent artist.

Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition and various public exhibitions.

He is currently a regular member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
