p7984
Aobizen Sangiri sake cup
This is an Aobizen sangiri sake cup by Mitsuhiro Kaneshige, an artist who, despite being born into the prestigious Kaneshige Ritoen pottery family, creates ceramics guided solely by his own spirit of inquiry rather than the weight of his name.
This is a unique piece that aims for an Aobizen (blue Bizen) firing through intense reduction flames, while also being wrapped entirely in sangiri (patterned shading).

From a distance, it looks just like charcoal or coal, and it is characterized by a mysterious aesthetic that makes you realize anew that it is indeed ceramic once you hold it in your hand.

The surface, where the blue firing of the reduction flames meets intense sangiri, features a complex blend of blue, black, and silver, creating a profound appearance that shifts its expression depending on the viewing angle.

Furthermore, the clay surface of this piece is intriguing; when sake is poured in and the moisture permeates it, the natural yellow and green Bizen glazes hidden by the kiln changes emerge.

The potter's wheel marks in the well, reminiscent of a well-conceived tea reservoir, and the trimming of the foot, which leaves behind crepe-like traces, are perfectly executed.

Signed wooden box to be provided at a later date (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 6.8cm × 6.7cm × Height 5.2cm

Mitsuhiro Kaneshige was born in 1988 into the Kaneshige Ritoen pottery family in Ibe, Bizen City.

He entered the Bizen Pottery Center in 2017 and fired his first kiln in 2020.

In 2023, he received the Shubi Award at the Chanoyu Ceramics Exhibition, and in 2024, he held his first solo exhibition.
