p7995
Aoebe tea bowl
This is an Aobe (blue Bizen) tea bowl by Mitsuhiro Kaneshige, an artist who, despite being born into the prestigious Kaneshige Ritoen kiln—one of the six founding families of Bizen pottery—creates works driven by his own inquisitive spirit rather than the weight of his name.
This unique piece aims for the blue Bizen style through intense reduction firing while simultaneously incorporating the black expressions characteristic of Ibe-de (Bizen) ware.

Through the blue reduction firing and the Ibe-de technique, the Bizen coloration appears as if it has been negative-positively inverted; white sesame glazes with a faint blue-gray tint flow over a deep, ink-like black surface.

The thick, rich sesame glaze, achievable only through multiple firings, is truly a masterpiece, and the "tamadare" (beaded glaze) pooled around the foot will hold a pleasant, comforting warmth during tea service.

The profound effects of the firing are also remarkably evident on the interior (mikomi), where layers upon layers of sesame glaze create a landscape that looks as if molten metal has been poured into the finished bowl.

The foot, with its unique design of undulating, raised clay, is a finish characteristic of Mitsuhiro Kaneshige, who deeply reveres old Bizen pottery.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Diameter 12.1cm x 12.0cm x Height 9.3cm

Mitsuhiro Kaneshige was born in 1988 at the Kaneshige Ritoen kiln in Ibe, Bizen City.

He entered the Bizen Pottery Center in 2017 and fired his first kiln in 2020.

In 2023, he received the Shubi Award at the Chanoyu Ceramics Exhibition, and in 2024, he held his first solo exhibition.
