p8033
Hiyama Bizen Tea Bowl
This is a Hiyama-Bizen tea bowl by Hiroshi Goseki, who trained under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki before opening his own kiln in Ibaraki Prefecture.
This tea bowl was crafted using a blend of Bizen clay and clay from Hiyama, and fired in an anagama kiln built in Hiyama, Hitachiomiya City.

Perhaps due to the influence of the Hiyama clay, the piece has a rustic texture when held, and its clay quality—characterized by a strong caramel-brown hue—possesses a unique charm distinct from traditional Bizen ware.

The exterior features a "sangiri" finish with a unique luster and texture reminiscent of wet stone, while the interior draws the eye with a dry, matte "tobigoma" (splashed sesame) glaze.

For this piece, the artist used slab construction to form the base before finishing it with intricate hand-pinched adjustments, resulting in a superb form that evokes the serenity and subtle irregularities of a Raku tea bowl.

Regarding the foot, true to Goseki-sensei's dedication to the study of tea ceremony and tea ceramics, a calm maturity is beginning to emerge within his energetic and sophisticated design.

Signed wooden box to be provided later (we apologize, but please allow some time for shipping).
Diameter 12.2cm × 11.9cm × Height 9.4cm

Hiroshi Goseki was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1988.

After graduating from Tohoku University of Art and Design in 2013, he apprenticed under Bizen ware Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki.

He became independent in 2017 and built his kiln in Hiyama, Hitachiomiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 2019.
