p8086
Bizen Hiki-dashi Kaku Sake Cup
This is a Bizen "hikidashi" (pulled-from-kiln) square sake cup by Yoshiteru Koriki, an artist who pursues his own creative path without pretense, despite having studied under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige.
This piece was removed from the kiln in September of Reiwa 7 (2025).

It was placed in the hottest area directly in front of the flames and pulled from the kiln during the firing, giving the entire piece the appearance of being coated in glass.

However, the base that was in contact with the kiln shelf has a lead-like hue, a stark contrast to the outer edges that reminds us once again of the mysterious nature of "hikidashi-guro" (pulled-black) and the wonder of light.

The square form, somewhat reminiscent of Chojiro's "peeled chestnut" style, is intriguing, and combined with the pale green landscape, it evokes a different expression than typical Bizen ware.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.2cm x 8.0cm x Height 4.3cm

Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture, in 1970.

After graduating from high school, he studied ceramics under Sozan Kaneshige and Yuho Kaneshige for seven years starting in 1989.

In 1996, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, and fired his first kiln the following year.

He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has continued to hold annual solo exhibitions since then.

In 2002, he was selected for the Tea Ceremony Art Exhibition for the first time.
