Bizen Water Pitcher by Toshu Yamamoto

Hello everyone. Today, I would like to introduce a masterwork from the younger days of Toshu Yamamoto. It is a captivating piece featuring wild 'hidasuki' (fire-cord) markings, in stark contrast to the gentle hidasuki of his later years. The intense, old-Bizen style hidasuki created by a climbing kiln gives this piece a very deep, rich character. The surface texture is also reminiscent of old Bizen, with attractive features like iron spots and a tasteful, dark brown clay body. While a 'mizusogi' (water pitcher) is, as the name implies, meant for pouring water, don't you think water suits this landscape perfectly? I believe water suits it precisely because it is so rugged and evokes the 'soil' and the 'earth itself.' When water flows through a river, there is always earth by its side. There is earth at a spring, and the earth is indispensable for clear mountain water. As a vessel for water, clay is the best material. On a grander scale, could it not be said that this Earth is a vessel of soil filled with water? That is why I think water suits this piece so well, as it evokes a strong sense of the earth. I believe this is a magnificent water pitcher that boldly embraces the purity and delicate image of water. size: 22.7cm diameter x 19.4cm diameter x 22.1cm height For detailed photos or inquiries about this piece, please contact us at the information below.
