中本研之 作 備前豆皿

Bizen Mamezara (miniature dish) by Noriyuki Nakamoto

Hello everyone! Winter has well and truly arrived, and these are the days when we don't want to leave our futons, aren't they?
However, in the Bizen region, kiln firings and kiln openings are going to become more and more frequent from here on out.
In fact, even in winter, it gets hot enough in front of the kiln that a T-shirt is more than enough, so kiln openings often overlap during this season.

Now, speaking of winter, there are fun events like Christmas and end-of-year parties.
I would like to introduce some easy-to-use small plates that are perfect for such occasions.
The maker is Kenji Nakamoto, who became independent in 2005 and built his kiln in 2006.
His work is characterized by a gentle texture and meticulous craftsmanship that reflect the influence of his mentor, Shin Isezaki.
With their vibrant, modern tones from the anagama kiln and soft, light-hearted forms, these pieces are both easy to use and look fantastic.
They seem well-suited for anything from Japanese or Western sweets to individual side dishes, and their warm color palette is a welcome sight in the cold of winter.
