Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well despite the busyness of the year-end season.
Today, I would like to introduce a very intriguing incense burner by Mr. Shimamura.
When we think of incense burners, the first thing that comes to mind is a circular vessel with three legs and ornate detailing on the lid.
This piece is Mr. Shimamura’s answer, paying respect to those incense burners crafted by masters of old.
Instead of using the camellia flower, he chose the leaves as his motif, combining them to create a three-dimensional structure.
The branches at the base intertwine to form holes, allowing the piece to function as an incense burner.
By providing a place to set the incense at the bottom, he brings the work to completion.
It is a stylish and remarkably witty incense burner, quintessentially Mr. Shimamura.
What I find most impressive, however, is that it is precisely because of this form that one can feel the respect for the "good old incense burners."
Recalling the aforementioned "circular vessel with three legs and ornate detailing on the lid,"
the three leaves serve perfectly as the three legs, and it maintains a proper circular form, divided into two parts: the lid and the base.
The concept truly follows the traditions of those fine old incense burners.
It isn't just about changing the exterior with an unusual, modern shape.
Rather, it is about inheriting the foundation of what an incense burner is, and expressing it through his own personal filter.
Here lies the true spirit of a master craftsman.
There was a time when the people who made, bought, and sold ceramics all approached them with genuine heart and intention.
This piece made me think deeply about such things.
I believe this is a work that conveys Mr. Shimamura's passion more than ever.
