Today's update features a Bizen hidasuki square-tube flower vase from the Seiko era of Hideyuki Wani, who studied under Toyo Kaneshige and inherited his techniques and vision as his final apprentice.
The piece is accompanied by a ceramics history document dated up to February 1987, suggesting it was crafted around that time.
It was created by hammering out a sheet of clay and wrapping it around a square form,
a method that gives this square-shaped vessel a soft, warm, and handcrafted appeal.
As one would expect from an artist who received rigorous training from both masters Toyo and Sozan,
the simple, warm, and rustic hidasuki (fire-cord) markings exhibit outstanding color and clay quality.
Guided by his master's teaching that "beautiful things cannot be born if the creator's heart is not beautiful,"
this piece is a tranquil work that reflects the life of Wani-sensei, who continues to live a quiet life of farming and reading to this day.
With its simple tubular shape, it is easy to arrange flowers in and does not take up much space,
allowing you to easily incorporate Bizen pottery into your daily life.
