Hello everyone.
Today, I would like to introduce a Kaki (persimmon) glaze beer cup created by Toyo-sensei at the University of Hawaii.
Toyo-sensei served as a lecturer at the University of Hawaii in his later years, and occasionally, glazed works he created during that time appear.
This piece is one of those works, with a chic, persimmon-colored glaze that gives it a stylish atmosphere.
The underlying base color is a creamy beige, giving the work an overall pop-art feel.
The craftsmanship is also quite gentle, and there is a certain charm that makes you want to reach out and use it as you gaze upon it.
As with other works from his time at the University of Hawaii that I have seen, this piece shows a truly relaxed and gentle style, which is a departure from the dignified and solemn atmosphere of traditional Bizen ware.
It is as if we are catching a glimpse of a new side of Toyo-sensei within the lightness of these creations.
