Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Following yesterday's post, today I would like to introduce more new works by Baba-sensei.
In anticipation of the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup,
I will introduce a black Western-style cup (black wine cup) with a very unique form.

It features a bold design reminiscent of a trophy cup.

Bizen wine cups are very difficult to make because the stems tend to sag in the kiln.
In this work, the stem was shaped by carving, achieving a balance between design and structural rigidity.

The profound black surface is adorned with stunning, rich yellow sesame glaze (goma). It is well-fired, and the luster of the black is magnificent.

The stem has been carved bit by bit, creating a design that appears to rotate and converge.
The rugged, rock-like, and highly sculptural style truly embodies the "Baba spirit."
With a stature resembling a trophy cup, this wine cup has a very valiant presence.
This is a new work conceived by Baba-sensei for this firing, and the carved stem is truly stylish.
Baba-sensei is also very fond of it, giving it his seal of approval in the showroom by saying, "This is good, isn't it?"
The presence and direction of the piece are completely determined by the single element of the stem,
which reminded me once again of the depth of "three-dimensional" art and "form."
Also, in today's website update, we plan to upload Baba-sensei's new black katakuchi (pourer).
Please be sure to take a look.
