BORDERLESS: New works by Takashi Baba have arrived.

Hello everyone, how are you doing?

Today is the final day of our BORDERLESS feature, and I would like to introduce the Bizen version of the Western-style wine vessel, which has received a great deal of response.

The black version had a unique atmosphere, like a trophy cup, but what do you think of this Bizen-ware version?

It was fired using Mr. Baba’s original "Yohen Hidasuki" (kiln-transformed fire-cord) technique.

From about halfway down the cup, a kiln transformation appears like a coating, and as it reaches the base, it becomes a purplish ash-covered glaze.

It matches perfectly with the highly reddish texture of the upper half of the cup.

The one on the right is a bit slimmer, while the one on the left has a slightly stockier build. They make quite a good pair.

Perhaps due to the texture of the deep red surface, it has an atmosphere somewhat like wood.

The kiln transformation on the base is intense. The gradation between the cup and the stem is superb.

Inside the cup, in contrast to the scorched base, you can see a very fresh, orange-colored clay quality.

How did you enjoy this BORDERLESS feature?

Thank you very much for all your inquiries.

I felt that Mr. Baba is loved in a "borderless" way by many people through his "borderless" artistic creations.

Kawaguchi Tourakuen will continue to introduce Mr. Baba's work, so please look forward to it.

Bonus section

A Bizen pouring vessel (katakuchi) I purchased for my own collection.

I really fell in love with how pointy it is—it looks like a Triceratops.

This also has the same "Yohen Hidasuki" firing as the Bizen Western wine vessel.

The angular design of the spout and the meticulous fluting (shinogi) on the sides match beautifully.
