Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Today, I would like to introduce the work of a talented and up-and-coming young artist, Mr. Tetsuhide Fujita.
Just the other day, I had the opportunity to visit Mr. Fujita's studio with a customer,
and during that visit, I acquired an inlaid flower vase featured in the Bizen special issue of "Bessatsu Honoo Geijutsu,"
and an inlaid water basin featured in the Bizen Ware Artist and Kiln Directory published by the Sanyo Shimbun.
Mr. Fujita launched his career after completing his graduate studies at Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts in 2007,
and is a noteworthy young artist who built his own climbing kiln in Ushimado and primarily presents works featuring line inlay techniques.
These two pieces are also decorated with his characteristic line inlays,
and the combination of the rustic texture of Bizen ware with geometric inlays is truly stylish.
It is as if the familiar Bizen texture has transformed into something else entirely,
appearing fresh and vivid as a new form of Bizen ware.
Furthermore, although both are quite large pieces, they are crafted with great care,
and the beautifully refined clay surface alone makes one feel their beauty.
Bizen Line Inlaid Flower Vase
The carbonized sangiri pattern typical of a climbing kiln combines with the geometric inlay design,
creating a contrast of stillness and motion that makes the familiar sangiri pattern feel very novel. ※This piece has been sold.
Scarlet Line Inlaid Water Basin
Here too, the familiar Bizen ware surface displays a completely new expression through the black and white inlays.
Although it is a very large water basin, the intricately woven inlaid surface itself is spectacular,
and it can be enjoyed even just as a decorative piece.
