Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Today, I would like to introduce the newly arrived "Kuro-Suiki" (Black Sake Vessel) by Ryuichi Kakurezaki.
We were lucky to acquire this piece; it is a rare type that combines black glaze with "shino" (faceted) carving, something not often seen.
Although it is an older work and comes with a 2007 biography, it is brand new and unused.

The "goma" (sesame-like ash glaze) that clings to the surface is a distinctive feature.
A faint cobalt blue emerges from the crater-like depressions of the goma.

The matte goma matches the black finish, creating a wonderful sense of overall unity.

The spatula carving is integrated into the form not merely as lines or planes, but as a true three-dimensional structure.
It is not just about paring away clay, but built through a calculated composition.

The piece is well-fired, giving the black a luster that is almost mesmerizing.

Since the carving is not merely pursuing a flat design,
it possesses a beautiful three-dimensional form when viewed from any angle.
What did you think of Ryuichi Kakurezaki's Kuro-Suiki?
It is not a case of applying line or planar designs onto a pre-existing 3D shape;
rather, perfectly calculated lines and planes are assembled to create a form that strikes one as "beautiful."
As this is a work where such intricate lines are condensed,
one feels compelled to dim the lights and display it under a spotlight.
