Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Today's update features a black sake cup by Ryuichi Kakurezaki.
Kakurezaki-sensei is famous for his highly unique forms, and this piece is equally impressive with its carving that appears random at first glance but is actually meticulously calculated.
While maintaining the vessel's overall profile, the carving assembles the piece almost like a puzzle, with the cuts functioning as integral parts of a three-dimensional structure rather than just surface details.
It is a magnificent form that is difficult to describe in words, so please enjoy the photographs.
A rich, vivid yellow sesame glaze rests upon the well-fired, lustrous black surface.
This side must have faced the fire directly, as it features a powerful flow of sesame glaze.
The glossy black texture is irresistible.
The fine wrinkles suit the lustrous surface perfectly.
The interior also has a generous coating of sesame glaze, which should look wonderful when filled with sake.
Matte sesame ash appears around the base.
When viewed from the bottom, these carvings make the foot look so large that it almost seems to envelop the vessel.
What did you think of this magnificently sculpted black sake cup?
The glossy, lustrous black that emerges when the surface is fired just right is truly wonderful.
The hues of the yellow sesame glaze are also strikingly clear, giving this piece a noble contrast between black and gold.
