Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Today, I would like to introduce a very dynamic mortar by Yu Fujiwara.
Judging by the potter's mark, this piece was created after he was designated a Living National Treasure, and it is a magnificent work that radiates a sense of vibrant power.
Never changing his style throughout his life, Yu Fujiwara remained committed to a simple, clear, and open-hearted artistic approach.
Even in his prime, he created many large, free-spirited pieces.
He seemed as free as a young artist just starting out, always enjoying himself and continuing to create works he could truly love.
Even with the significant handicap of being visually impaired, he maintained his own style in his signature jars, spreading the reach of Bizen ware across the world.
Yu Fujiwara’s work seems to encourage us, saying, "Don't worry about what others think; follow the path you believe in."

Yu Fujiwara's yellow sesame glaze has a unique, rough texture.

In the era of Old Bizen, it was said that Bizen mortars were so sturdy they wouldn't break even if thrown.

The "shiso" (perilla) color on the back has variations, separating into sections with deep red and deep purple hues.
