New arrivals from Makoto Kaneshige: Part 1 - Bizen Beer Mug -

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? As we announced on the Kawaguchi Tourakuen Facebook page, I recently visited Makoto Kaneshige-sensei’s kiln opening and acquired his latest works, including pieces intended for his solo exhibitions. With his solo exhibitions outside the prefecture booked out for several years, we were fortunate to obtain these, and although the quantity is small, every one of them is an exquisite masterpiece.   Today, I would like to introduce the beer mug that sensei himself—rumored to be the biggest drinker in Bizen—uses on a daily basis. He mentioned, "I've been using it for about three years, and the inside has taken on a mysterious hue," so I asked to see it, and I was stunned to find it had developed into a color I had never seen before.   makotobeer.blog2.JPG I have never seen an amber-colored surface like this on the inside before.   makotobeer.blog2.JPG This is what it looks like after about three years of use.   Bizen ware is unglazed and fired at high temperatures, so the clay surface comes into direct contact with your skin. While a chilled glass tumbler is perfectly adequate for simply drinking beer, Bizen pottery gains a deeper luster when wet, and the texture of the clay and its fine pebbles offer a soothing touch. If you are looking to satisfy not just your sense of taste and smell, but all five senses to create a truly pleasurable experience, I believe nothing is more rational than a Bizen beer mug. Starting at 8:00 PM today, we will be introducing 6 new beer mugs by Makoto Kaneshige-sensei on the Kawaguchi Tourakuen website. We hope you will take a look.
