[A Microcosm in the Palm: Treasure Vase & Incense Burner Exhibition] Incense Container (Kogo) by Furo Ishii

Today's update features another incense container, just like yesterday, but this time I would like to introduce a kogo (incense container) by Furo Ishii. When I first saw this piece, the first thing I felt was how incredibly thorough the reproduction was. Bizen is a fairly nature-rich area, with chestnut trees growing nearby. In autumn, they are laden with green, spiky fruit. I recall that green being truly vivid—more of a creamy yellow-green than a deep green. As autumn deepens, the husks turn brown and gradually fall to the ground, welcoming winter. The chestnut inside those fallen husks looked exactly like this piece: a reddish-brown with a pointed tip. I take my hat off to Ishii-sensei’s meticulous craftsmanship in utilizing Bizen’s natural coloration and hidaski (fire-cord markings) to the fullest to express the reddish-brown of the chestnut. This is a piece that encapsulates a microcosm in its small form, one that brings the landscape of autumn back to mind whenever you look at it. size: width 7.0cm x 5.3cm x height 6.9cm price: 67,000 yen For inquiries regarding this piece, please contact us below.
