Hello everyone, how are you all doing?
Thanks to you, our Golden Week was a great success, and we are truly grateful.
We had many customers visit us from far away, and each meeting was a wonderful reunion.
For customers who visited Kawaguchi Tourakuen during Golden Week,
we served bread from Taku Kobo along with iced coffee.
It was very well received by those who tried it, and
I was keenly reminded that sincere craftsmanship, whether in pottery or bread,
seems to resonate and create a chain reaction.
It has renewed our determination to also do our best to convey something meaningful.
Now, today I would like to introduce such a wonderful Hidasuki tea bowl by Mr. Shusaku Taku.
In our previous article, we introduced vivid Hidasuki and weathered Hidasuki,
but this time it is a tea bowl with a very weathered taste using iron-rich clay.
True to Mr. Shusaku's concept, "I want to make Hidasuki that makes you want to put your mouth to it and touch it,"
it is a piece that makes you want to reach out and touch it, drawn by the strength of the Hidasuki emerging from the parched earth.
Inspired by the form of Raku ware, it is finished with a quiet and tasteful silhouette.
Detailed shavings around the base create "movement, facets, and sharpness," which accentuate the softness and stillness of the bowl itself.
It has a pleasant weight that allows you to feel the profound quality characteristic of Bizen clay.
He says he crafts these to convey the merits of Bizen clay and Hidasuki not only through appearance but also through texture and how they feel in the hand.
