Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Here in the Bizen region, the typhoon has just passed through its storm zone.
Strong winds and rain continue, but they have weakened slightly.
Today, I would like to introduce a rather unique small tea bowl by Shusaku Taku.
It is a small bowl made with the "give it his all" spirit characteristic of Mr. Taku, who puts his heart into everything he does.
Usually, these kinds of small bowls are mass-produced by various artists,
but I think it is rare to find one with such intense dedication to its form and firing.
One can strongly feel the single-mindedness and deep reverence for pottery typical of a young artist.

The dark scarlet fire-cord (hidaski) goes well with the slightly crusty sesame glaze.
The hidaski has blended with the sesame to create a glass-like finish.

The reverse side also displays the rich scenery characteristic of Taku’s Bizen-ware.
I was surprised by how thoroughly it was fired to a level suitable for a tea ceremony bowl.

The inside features a magnificent display of hidaski.
Mr. Taku mentioned that he wants to continue studying the art of hidaski.

I wonder just how many potters have been captivated by the masterpiece Goryeo-style "split foot" (warikodai) tea bowls.
Even now, in the Heisei era, it continues to set the hearts of young potters ablaze.
What did you think of Mr. Taku's warikodai small bowl?
It was made with such sincerity that it is a joy to behold.
I am truly looking forward to seeing how Mr. Taku evolves from here.
