Yūhō Kaneshige: Past and Present

Hello everyone, how are you all doing?

Well, today at Kawaguchi Tourakuen, we have had an interesting encounter between the past and the present, which I would like to introduce to you.

In fact, we currently have earlier works by Yuho Kaneshige on display in the shop alongside his more recent creations.

Today, I would like to introduce a jar from his "Yu" ceramic seal period; the box is inscribed "October, Heisei 3" (1991).

It is a piece that can only be described as graceful, featuring elegant "goma" (sesame glaze) accents and "hi-dasuki" (fire-cord) markings as soft as a maiden's lips.

At first glance, it carries a rhythm that makes one think of the works of Sozan Kaneshige.

While the yellow goma, hi-dasuki, and clay quality may seem plain, they possess a profound depth.

It is curious how even this pottery seems to resemble the lips of a maiden.

The simple, rustic flavor of the "ta-tsuchi" (field clay) here is truly a hallmark of the Kaneshige style.

Tomorrow, I plan to introduce a more recent flower vase made with "yama-tsuchi" (mountain clay), so I hope you will check back for that.
