Description

This is a colored gourd-shaped sake bottle by Anjin Abe, an artist who possesses deep insight into antique ceramics and an exquisite aesthetic sense, creating one-of-a-kind works through his original research and firing techniques. Based on the "three-point development" structural form established by Abe, this sake bottle is decorated with magnificent colors. The contrast between the yellow of the *goma* (sesame-like ash glaze) and the blue of the coloration is vivid to the eye, giving the piece a unique presence just by sitting there. The gold and red accents are also superb, harmonizing the entire piece beautifully. It is an intense work with an overwhelming sense of scale, making it a spectacular display piece even on its own.

Signed wooden box to follow (please note that it will take some time before shipping).
Rim 3.0cm × Body diameter 10.3cm × Body diameter 8.6cm × Height 15.8cm Capacity approx. 280ml

Anjin Abe was formerly a Western-style painter. While he collected ceramics as a hobby, he felt unsatisfied with contemporary Bizen ware and began working in ceramics in 1972 to create pieces that satisfied him. He frequently creates water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups. All are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His ceramic style is rooted in the antique Bizen ware of the Momoyama period, and he is meticulous about his firing methods. He also presents works that combine various materials and techniques such as ceramics, lacquer, oil paint, and bronze (mixed media), engaging in diverse creative activities. He energetically holds solo exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
