This Bizen beer mug is the work of Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality amidst a fresh spirit. It features the elaborate fluting (shinogi) characteristic of Akitani-sensei, crafted with a design that is both substantial and easy to use. The surface, dyed in a vibrant scarlet, has a smooth, gentle texture that is truly pleasing to the touch, further accentuated by the fluting—a work that the hands will surely delight in holding. The powerful ridge lines of the scarlet hidasuki fire markings and the profound goma (ash glazing), achieved only through careful firing in an anagama kiln, are a testament to the skill of the Isezaki school. It comes in a paulownia box, making it perfect for a casual gift.
