This Bizen beer mug is the work of Masao Akiya, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works full of unique originality within a fresh style. It features the elaborate fluting (shinogi) characteristic of Akiya's work, crafted with a sturdiness that makes it easy to use. The surface, dyed in a vibrant scarlet, has a smooth, gentle texture that feels incredibly pleasant to the touch, further accentuated by the fluting—a piece that is a true delight to hold. The powerful lines of the fire-cord (hidasuki) patterns and the profound sesame glaze (goma), achieved only through careful firing in an anagama kiln, are a testament to the skill of the Isezaki school. It comes in a paulownia box, making it perfect for a casual gift.
