Description
This Bizen sake cup is by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. It is a magnificent piece featuring clear, beautiful *kumadori* (shading) that truly defines the Kaneshige style of kiln transformation. The nuanced coloring, which possesses a refined reddish hue without being ostentatious, is superb. It brings to mind Kosuke and Jumpei Kaneshige meticulously preparing clay in a studio filled with it. The form is so poised that, despite his youth, the piece exudes a certain seasoned air; it is a quintessential Bizen work, perfect for those new to Bizen ware or as a gift.
